Porto Katsiki beach, Lefkada, Greece
We invite you on a trip to the Greek island of Lefkada! Like most places in Greece, it is inextricably linked with its legends and history. According to one version, the island was "Homer's Ithaca": Odysseus' palace could be located on its southern coast. Aphrodite threw herself off a cliff here after the death of Adonis, and the ancient Greek poetess Sappho parted with her life here...
But these sad events remained in the distant past, and now Lefkada is not only a historical corner, but also a popular holiday destination, attracting people from all over the world. This is one of the Ionian Islands, with a characteristic Mediterranean climate and nature.
Among its most famous beaches is "Porto Katsiki", which translates as "goat port". It is located at the foot of a high cliff, and because of this relief feature, only mountain goats could get here before!
Boats and excursion boats pass by the beach, but they do not stop here: you can get to Porto Katsiki by car from the towns of Nydri or Vasiliki, and then you have to go down the steps carved into the rock - there are about 80 of them.
Porto Katsiki has coarse white sand and turquoise sea, and its waters are ideal for scuba diving due to their crystal clear waters. At the end of the day, many people stay on the beach to enjoy the picturesque romantic sunset.
Several sea caves are hidden under the cliffs stretching along the coast, but some of them are closed due to the risk of collapse. And right in front of the beach there is a small peninsula, which used to offer a stunning panoramic view. Unfortunately, the stepped road leading there was destroyed by the earthquake of 2015, and now it is impossible to walk along it.
But you can admire these views on the AirPano panorama!
